About Ellie

Dr. Ellie Izzo is the creator of sentbeat: a quick and innovative approach for navigating through our negative emotions so that we can approach the associated issue with our better judgement. She is also co-founder and core trainer with the Vicarious Trauma Institute and the Collaborative Divorce Institute. She developed the Rapid Advance Process in 1990.  It was originally conceived as a process to quickly offer relief to adult survivors of childhood trauma. The process has been effective because it gives the client an option to move out of negative brain circuitry and build new neural pathways to the higher brain. This neural shift results in a better feeling and behaving outcome. She created and wrote about the Rapid Advance Process in her doctoral dissertation and with Vicki Carpel Miller, LMFT, further developed the process for treatment of Vicarious Trauma. Ellie is now working to help everyone receive the benefits of her process.

Ellie is the author of The Bridge to I Am: Rapid Advance Psychotherapy©2007 and co-author with Vicki of Second Hand Shock: Surviving and Overcoming Vicarious Trauma. She and Vicki will soon be releasing the first three books in their Just Stop! series.

She is a mental health professional who specializes in conflict resolution. She also serves as a Trainer, Divorce Coach, Child Specialist and/or Team Manager in the process of Collaborative Divorce, whereby a team of professionals help a couple move through divorce respectfully, without litigating.

Ellie presents for numerous conferences and conventions. She has appeared as an expert for Fox News. She hosted a call-in radio show in Phoenix and served as Self-Help Editor for a nationally syndicated trade magazine. She runs several ongoing groups called the Encouragers, where people meet to offer each other peace, support and acceptance.

Ellie is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and Collaborative Divorce Professionals of Arizona. She is married with children and grandchildren. Her office is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. To reach Ellie, please email ellieizzo@sentbeat.com.

  3. Hello Ellie Izzo. I’m writing to you because I’m a mental health and psychiatry student. Right now we are discussing in class about vicarious trauma; something that I’m very interested in right now too, and I found your book in amazon. I’m reading it right now and I love it, but I would like to now if you have a more recent book about the topic since the DSM 5 came out in 2013 and some things were added, discussed and clarified. the book that I bought was the Second hand shock (surviving & overcoming vicarious trauma) from 2010. Would love a reply from you. My email is niome_4@hotmail.com
